Harriers Cop 2nd Honors In Interim Meet

Led by senior harrier Ed Stedman, West's thinclads grabbed second in the Interim League's conference cross country meet, held late in October. Prospect's harriers then bump-ed the Warrior speedsters on the Knight course, 24-31, in a meet held last Tuesday.

The first Maine West cross country team ended with a .500 percentage, at a four-and-four record. Warrior wins came over Glenbard East, Waukegan, Barrington, and Glenbrook. Other losses were against rough Proviso West and Palatine squads, plus Leyden East. The Eagle meet was decided by one point, 28-29. (Low score wins.)

Saturday, West garnered ninth position in the Maine District's cross country meet held among 18 suburban powers at Maine East. Individual honors went to Willie Kirkland, of New Trier's winning combination. Jack "Wildhorse" Kragie, who finished third in the meet for Maine East's Blue Demons, will go downstate tomorrow. Kragie last year took third in State for Coach William Barringer's
thindads. Kragie placed behind Kirkland and Allen Carius of Morton last year. Warrior Ed Stedman Saturday finished in the 13 position, in a field of the area's 125 best two-milers.

In the Interim meet, the host Proviso West Panthers took both individual and team honors. Barney Peterson finished the two-mile course in 10:09.8, and the Panthers had 64 points, as two other Proviso harriers held medals in the meet. West's total stood at 84, and third place Prospect was far behind with 98 points. Out of a field of 63 runners, West's Lee Wolf took 17, Paul Eisenbacher 19, Mike Canar 22, and Sig Weiler 23.

Other teams in order included: East Leyden, 105; Willowbrook, 120; Glenbrook, 137; Glenbard East, 154; West Leyden, 159; and Wheaton, 187.

The Prospect meet showed Stedman taking second position with a 9:45 timing, followed by Eisenbacher in fourth, Wolf in sixth, and Canar and Weiler in ninth and tenth.
