| by Al 'a Ed Running the course with a time of 5:02, Adam Berg ('61), of Mr. Kearns' class finished first in the intramural crosscountry meet, held after school on Thursday, October 27. George Thorne of Mr. Kennedy's class made the best time for juniors with a mark of 5:10. Both Tony Bachmura ('64) and Barney Franzen ('63), led their classes with times of 5:35 and 5:06.5, respectively, Both boys are in Mr. Nyren's gym classes. During the past few weeks, the badminton tournament was held in "C" wing gymnasium. Champions of their classes are Ralph Doyle ('61), Tom Kelly ('63), and Cliff Vogel ('64). Next on the agenda of intramural sports are table tennis and weight-lifting. According to coach Miley Hotchkiss, head of the intramural program, these will begin very 'soon. Basketball will start in December. |
The Dad's club will present its annual Fall sports banquet November 15, at 6:30, in the cafeteria. The purpose of the banquet is to honor the football and cross-country teams, on both the varsity and frosh-soph levels. The current wrestling season gets underway next Monday, when the Warrior grapplers start practice under the direction of head coach Richard Carlini. How much success the West wrestlers have this year may depend a lot on the strength of the juniors. Warrior swimmers also begin practice next Monday. Varsity head coach Harold Baer will supervise the training of his tankers. The tankmen will probably have a successful season being as they have most of the lettermen from last year.
