Board Examinations Dec. 3 For College Bound Students |
||||||||||
| For those who think they may be college bound, the time is nearing for a sharpening of wits and pencils! The first of the College Board Examinations will be offered on December 3 at Maine East. Others will be given in January, March, and May. These tests, known as the "College Boards," are prepared by the college board committees with the help of an educational testing service. In order to take these tests, an application card, filled out by the student, must be sent to the College Board office. Payment of the fee alone does not constitute registration. The fee, however, should be enclosed with the application card. The three-hour scholastic apti-tude test (SAT) is designed to measure a student's ability to grasp things. It is primarily a test of reasoning ability. ACH, the achievement tests, are one hour in length and are offered in English, social studies, intermediate math, advanced math, biology, chemistry, physics, and six languages. The writing sample (WS) is an English essay on an assigned topic. This is written by the student at the test center. The College Board will forward this essay to the college named by the student. These tests are designed to help colleges make choices from the applications of students who desire admission. Together with the high school record, letters of recommendation, and interviews, the Board can forecast quite well how the student is likely to do in college. |
