Madwoman Merry, Gay

Hear Ye! Hear Ye! The stage is set. The time? A little before noon during the spring of next year. The place? A small cafe in the middle of Chaillot, France. This is the setting for Maine West's Senior class play, "The Madwoman of Chaillot," a two-act comedy by Jean Giraudoux.

Performing the male roles are Ray Alajoki, Jim Brennan, Norm Boyer, Mike Callaghan, Richard Day, Dave Hopkins, Gerry Stanowicki and Dan Wiberg. Double casting was needed in the female roles to allow several more to participate in the play. The girls selected for these roles are Kathy Clayton, Beverlee Engle, Maryann Hemmer, Lois Jarl, Sidney Miller, Ethelann Wagner and Gail Windmeier.

Supporting roles are carried out by Andy Adolfson, Chuck Ermeling, Anaterese Giardini, Lynn Kania, Karen Klopp, Bob Metzle on Mills, Holly Peter-so, Carol Pier, Don Plautz, Sue Purves, Bob Richardson, Jim Scott, Char Thompson, Dick Williams and Bob Wright.

The play depicts Countess Aurelia, the madwoman of Chaillot, who decides to abolish the world of all evil people. The
result? complete chaos and hilarity. In her efforts to rid the world of wickedness, she and her cohorts, Constance, Gabrielle and Josephine, stage a search to find all persons engaged in various merriments.

The play is not strictly a comedy. It holds pathos for melodrama lovers, romance for the fanciful, and humor for those who love to laugh. This is one play that will surely appeal to all.

Working hard to finish details for the week-end are Mrs. Eleanor Annen and Mr. Ralph Caprio of the English department; student director, Carri Perez; prop head and assistant student director, Rita Gardino; and costume heads, Dottie Hutchison and Melody Pabst.

Previews of the play were shown in assemblies Tuesday and Wednesday. Tickets for the play to be held tonight and tomorrow night are still on sale in the cafeteria and will also be sold at the door for $1.

At this point nerves are on edge, but when the curtains part and the lights go down "The Madwoman of Chaillot" will go down as another great high school production.
