Season Concert Has
Children's Theme

In keeping with the Christmas season, the Maine West Music department will present its annual Christmas concert tonight at 8 p.m. in the school auditorium.

This year's concert will be presented in three parts featuring first the bands, then the orchestras, and finally the choruses.

"Christmas for the Kids" is the theme for the songs selected. The concert orchestra, chamber orchestra, and the junior orchestra will participate by playing songs especially for children; "Teddy Bears' Picnic," Children's March," nursery rhyme melodies, and the "Carnival of Animals." Selections from the "Carnival of Animals" include the first and second suites, Introduction and March of Lions, Tortoises, Personages with Long Ears, The Parade, The Elephant, The Hens and Rooster, and The Fossils. "How the Goldfish got his Gold," "The Bear who Loved Music," and the "Tortoise and the Hare" are among the stories to be told.

The concert orchestra will play "Christmas Memories," "Song of Christmas," "Jingle Bell Beguine" (a new version of the traditional favorite), and the "Overture to
Christmas Cantata" by Bach. "Jesu, Meine Freude" will be played by the junior orchestra along with "Greensleeves."

Traditional carols are to be played by the orchestras under the guidance of Mrs. Mildred Heidorn, director. Mr. Wilbur Schafer, vocal instructor, is directing the choruses in sacred. Christmas songs. The combined choruses and orchestras will feature the "Hallelujah Chorus" from Handel's Messiah.

Accompanists are Sherry Balma '61 and Donna Cadwallader '62 for the Girls' and Boys' Choruses and the Girls' Glee, respectively.

"We hope to preview the new band uniforms at the concert," related Mr. Robert Kuite, director of the bands. These new uniforms have royal blue coats and pants trimmed in gold and white. The Maine West Music boosters helped to buy the uniforms by paying half of the $8,000 cost.

The cost of the tickets is $1 for adults and 75 cents for children and students. Activity tickets will be honored.
