Cherry Pie Takes Cake

"Can she bake a cherry pie?" is the question which has been heard frequently in the halls at Maine West the last few days. Girls currently enrolled in home economics foods classes and those who have taken foods course previously, have been competing in a cherry pie baking contest.

The first prize winner at Maine West is Christine Kucharski '63, who is enrolled in an advanced foods class taught by Miss Nancy Teuscher. She will receive a ribbon as an award and an opportunity to compete at the district level in this contest which is sponsored by the Northern Illinois Gas company.
Two hours are allowed for preparation, baking, and display of the pie for judging. Quality of the pie and the student's skill, poise, and ability in giving the demonstration are considered in the judging.

Two district winners will compete later in one of the five division contests. Two winners from each of these divisions, together with their teachers, will receive an all-expense week-end tour of some large city, visiting places of interest to young homemaking students.
