Maine Grad Likes Purdue

"Although it is a large university, everyone is treated as an individual rather than just a number," commented Rosemarie Parker, graduate of Maine.

She is speaking of Purdue university, located 150 miles southeast of Chicago at Lafayette, Indiana.

Going to a large school such as Purdue, which has 15,000 students attending this year, has certain advantages over a smaller school.

For sports enthusiasts some of the athletics at Purdue include football, basketball, swimming, tennis, wrestling, and golf. A big attraction to those interested in golf is the school's own 18 hole course.

There are many activities to keep a person busy all year round. Athletic and recreational activities include pep club, modern dance club, sailing, archery, water polo, fencing, and saddle club.
Some of the interest and hobby clubs include astronomy, automobile, photography, chess, Purdue pilots, and amateur radio club.

For those interested in drama there is the Purdue Playshop. Playshop puts on about eight well-known productions each year and several experimental plays which are directed by graduate students. Anyone is welcome to tryout for the parts. "Life with Father," "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof," "J.B.," "The Story of Job," and "The Crucible" are a few of the dramas the Playshop has done.

The cost of attending Purdue, which includes tuition and dormitory room with meals, is approximately $1,800 a year. Purdue offers three payment plans to fit the budget of the individual.
