WEST 'SPORTS |
||||||||||
| by AL & ED In case some of the students at Maine West don't know it, there are three other Winter sports besides basketball. Please don't think we're degrading basketball, because we aren't. It's just that students here at Maine seemed to take gymnastics, swimming, and wrestling for granted. Instead of sitting back and reading the results of the above mentioned three sports, why don't you, the students of Maine West, attend as many home and away meets as possible, and show these boys working for us in these sports that we're behind them, all the way. * * * Tomorrow night will be the final basketball before the famed Pontiac Christmas Tournament, at Pontiac, December 28-30. This tourney hosts many of the top cage teams in the area. The Westmen might possibly get another crack at the top cage squad, Waukegan, that walloped them Dec. 3, 51-31. |
Maine West's athletic slate on the freshmen and sophomore level, for this week and next is this: Frosh-soph basketball finds Highland Park's second school, Deerfield, coming to Maine, Saturday morning. Warrior gymnasts host West Leyden's frosh-sophs, tonight at 7 p.m. There are no more swimming meets until Jan. 5, when the Warriors journey to Proviso West. Wrestling-wise, the varsity understudies from Maine entertain Prospect's Knights. * * * Since the Winter sports agenda has been under way at Maine West, varsity Warrior athletes have won only four, while dropping ten. The top slate at Maine today, is the record of the frosh-soph wrestling squad, owning a 4-1 mark. This squad, under the directionship of William Barringer, suffered its first setback, December 10, against East Leyden. The varsity bucket slate stands at two and two, with wins over Glenbrook and Notre Dame, and losses to Blue Island and Waukegan. Varsity matmen have also won two while losing two. They have beaten Grant and Lake Forest, and succumbed to Evanston and Wheaton. |
