Warrior of the West

"My Christmas wish this year," confessed Mike Rowlee '61, forward on the basketball team, "is that our team does well in the Pontiac Tournament to be held December 28 through 30."

Mike, standing six feet tall and weighing 160 pounds, earned his letter in baseball last year. In his sophomore year he was awarded his numerals in basketball as well as baseball.

Participating in basketball all four years, Mike says that he got his biggest thrills from the Niles and the State tourney games last year.

"I think our team this year has more of a chance to succeed than last year's team. Our present team is pretty good!" admitted "Little George." Rowlee is commonly known by his team-mates as "Little George" because of his left-handed maneuvers which are characteristic of George Verber, star player last year.
This brown-eyed chap with a brown "flat-top", does not contribute all of his energy to basketball alone. He was an ice skating guard at West Park in Des Plaines and a lifeguard at Rand Park's swimming pool last year.

"Once after half time, I returned to the other team's basket!" commented Mike as his most embarrassing moment. But to receive a Brotherhood award proved to be an exciting experience for him.

"Of the four years in high school, I've enjoyed my senior year the most," said Mike, "because I've had more fun, and more freedom!" This fun loving West Mainite plans to attend Northern Illinois university to major in physical education. A high school gym teacher is the life for Mike!
