Meeting for Teachers Friday Allows Students Relaxation |
||||||||||
| Next Friday Maine West students are off of school for the annual Teacher's Institute Day. But few probably realize what takes place on this day. Just what does happen? To begin with, while students sleep late and enjoy relaxation in general, this is a working day for teachers. The teachers are to attend a meeting at Maine East, which begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 3 p.m. Guest speakers in the morning session will be Mr. Norman Ross, Jr., journalist and commentator, who will speak on "The World Today" and Dr. Beryl D. Orris, authority on human relations, who will speak on "What Makes the Wheels Go Round." |
During his Army career, Mr. Ross studied Mandarin Chinese as a basis for later conducting training courses for Chinese soldiers. Later he was sent to India where he broadcast regularly on the Indian Radio Network, lectured at Indian uni-versities, and traveled extensively. As a result of his work, he met several times with the great Indian leaders: Gandi, Nehru, and Jinnah. He also covered the Japanese War Crime trials in Jakarta, Indonesia. Dr. Orris, a student of Sigmund Freud and Havelock Ellis, is a successful platform speaker. He is an expert in many fields including human relations, world youth movements, and mental health. His Personal Dynamics Workshop program, recently established in Chicago, deals with the individual in business and life, and he attempts to help the individual discover himself so he can function as a well-integrated human being. |
