| Winning three of their last five encounters, West's varsity basketball team brought up the Warrior season record to an even 8-8. Coach Gaston Freeman's Westmen enter Interim League play tomorrow night at the Maine East fieldhouse against upset-happy Wheaton, the school that rocked Prospect, 62-60, last weekend; Prospect is rated number two in the State. Wheaton reserve Al Lange plunked in a 30-footer just as the buzzer sounded to keep the game from going into overtime. Here are the scores of West's last five contests: Maine West 45, East Leyden 73. Maine West 39, Prospect 51. Maine West 62, Willowbrook 52. Maine West 75, Lake Forest 49. Maine West 68, Glenbrook 32. |
Of the five encounters, the Lake Forest Scouts furnished the only non-league competition, and West ran away with the contest as three Warriors entered the double figures. Seniors Bruce Shriver (21) Doug Halpenny (18) and Mike Rowlee (14) all scored high, and along with senior Keith Connolly and junior Rick Warnicke who comprised the starting quintet. Altogether 15 Warrior bucketmen entered the game. In the rebound columns, Connolly led against East Leyden, with six, Reese against Prospect with seven, Shriver against Wilowbrook and Lake Forest with 10 and 11, consecutively, and Reese against Glenbrook with six. The Warriors pulled down a record 37 rebounds against the L. F. Scouts. |
