Tracksters Win Home Meet Tests

Running roughshod over their competition, Maine West's varsity tracksters walloped Austin of Chicago, 76 2/3 to 23 1/3, last Tuesday at the Maine East fieldhouse. Two records were tied in the Warrior's inaugural meet.

Chicago's Schurz will attempt to take on the Westmen next Tuesday in Maine's third varsity track meet this season. Starting time at the Maine East fieldhouse is 4 p.m. The War riors are the Interim League's defending champions, but do not face League competition until Saturday, March 4, when the Glenbrook Spartans journey to the East fieldhouse for a 9:30 a.m. meet.

In the Austin meet, the thindads were led by senior Most Valuable player, Art Steele, and senior Dennis Luzinski. Hurdler Luzinski raced to a time of :06.5 seconds in the 50-yard high hurdles to equal the fieldhouse record, and took a close second in the lows. "High Bar" Steele, who won three events altogether, also tied the record of 12 feet in the pole vault in his first attempt at the 12 foot mark.
West held 10 of the 12 first; Ken McLaughlin '61, threw the shot 48 feet, 9 3/4 inches for a first, Ed Stedman '61, held the mile with a 5:07.4 timing, Luzinski grabbed the highs, Vic Oakley '62, led the half mile sweep with a time of 2:13.8, Lee Wolf '62, took the quarter mile in :54.5, and Steel held both the high jump, 6 feet, 1/4 inch, and broad jump, 20 feet,] 8 inches, along with the pole vault.

Two Warrior teams won the relay events. The four-lap team of Dennis Luzinski, Auggie Milz, Chuck Weil, and Ron Albertson ran to a time of 1:17.9k and the eight-lapper of Vie Oakley, Mike Canar, Ed Luziet. tj and Paul Eisenbacher raced raced to the time of 2:25.6,

The Warriors swept the mile, quarter mile, and shotput events. Behind McLaughlin in the shot were Tom Jacobs '61, and Auggie Milz '61. Second and third in the quarter were held by Paul Eisenbacher '61, and Dave Madison '62. The supporting slots in the mile were swept by Wayne Roberts '61, and Sig Weller, '61.
