Carnival, Mardi Gras Mood Comprise 'La Bal Masque'
Amid the festive atmosphere of a Mardi Gras, girls will entertain their favorite guys at "La Bal Masque," Maine West's all school girl's choice, to be held in the school's cafeteria, February 25, from 9 to 12 p.m.
The girls will foot the bill for this evening with the date of her choice and will provide him with a mask and/or corsage of her own creation.
"The annual tradition has been for the girl to create her own corsage for her and her date," announced Marilyn Manny, '62, "but this year we thought we would try something new. She may make the mask, the corsage, or both."
Highlighting the "La Bal Masque will be brilliantly colored balloons and festive murals, changing the cafeteria into a Vieus Carre or French Quarter. A colorful Mardi Gras float will be provided for Iver Beurk and his seven piece band.
Tickets for the dance will be on sale in the cafeteria for $2 per couple during the week of February 20-24.
La Bal Masque, sponsored by the Maine West Girl's club, is under the direction of general chairman Sue Frasier, '61. Other committee chairmen are entertainment, Peggy Meyer, '61; refreshments, Alice Long, '63; tickets, Carole Koscal and Karen Hem, '62; publicity, Janice Wandry and Valorie Olson, '63; invitations, Nancy Napier, '61; bids, Dyann Cashau and Carol Peterson, '61; decorations, Ann Gulick, '61 and Marilyn Manny, '62; and coat room, Judy Nixon, '64.
"La Bal Masque is going to be a fabulous dance." remarked Sue. "We hope all the girls will take this opportunity to treat their favorite guys to a night out."
