Show Band Features Jazz Theme
Three Phase Music Show
"Jazz Coast to Coast" is the swinging theme for the Show band to be featured in the Maine West Band Concert February 24 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium.
"The program will be a complete variety of music including serious, 'light pop', progressive jazz, and weird compositions. There's a number for everyone!" said Mr. Jared Spears, director of the Show band and assistant director of the bands.
There are three parts to the concert, all featuring different types of music. The first part will feature the "pick of the crop" Concert band wearing, for the very first time, their new uniforms. These royal blue uniforms were bought by the Maine West Music Boosters and the Board of Education.
The Concert band will play "The Parade of the Charioteers" from the motion picture "Ben-Hur," "Night on Bald Mountain" from Walt Disney's "Fantasia," "Night at the Ballet," "Jungle Drums," "High Society," and finally Ellen Cameron '61, will play, "Timpat" on the kettle drums.
In the second part of the program, the combined Cadet and Intermediate bands will play "The Love Theme from Romeo and Juliet" and "Symphonette for Band," a composition of modern music.
Wrapping up the show will be the twenty-two piece Dance band playing songs to fit their theme, "Jazz Coast to Coast." The band will play "Congenial," their opening trademark, "Brazil," "Dinner at Mung's," "Mr. Anthony's Bogie," with the style of Ray Anthony, "Meteetse," with the style of Count Basie and finally Diane Disabato '61, will sing "Moonlight in Vermont."
