West Cindermen Nip Evanston Kits

Win 55 1/2 – 44 1/2

Warrior varsity cindermen secured their fourth consecutive win of the season against no setbacks, with three recent wallopings over Schurz, 77-23, Taft, 82-18, and Evanston 55441/2.

Next Friday the Warriors will probably have their toughest dual meet of the season when they journey to Oak Park to take on the undefeated huskies.

Against Evanston, West copped eight of the 12 possible first places. Jumper Art Steele was the meet's individual star with leaps of victories in the high-jump, 6' 13/4", the broad. jump, 21', and the pole vault, 12'4". Hurdler Dennis Luzinski was a double winner for West with triumphs in the 60. yard high and low hurdles. Ron Albertson edged an Evanston entry in the 50-yard dash in a "photo finish.", Ken McLaughlin heaved the 12 lb. shot 48' 101/4” for top honors in the weight event, while the Warnor's final win, the sprint relay, was nipping the Wildkits quartet, in 1:18.5.
Warrior Luzinskj was the only West double-winner against Schurz with firsts in both the high and low hurdles. Luzinski also ran the first leg of the victorious four-lap team, along with Auggie Milz, Chuck Weil, and Ron Albertson. Albertson captured first slot in the 50-yard dash event.

Other Warrior firsts included Lee Wolf in the quarter mile run, Ed Stedman in the mile, Dennis Buttner in the high-jump, Art Steele in the pole vault, and Ken McLaughlin in the shot put, plus Vie Oakley in the 880-yard run. The blue and gold swept the high. jump competition as Chuck Weber and Dan Rowe held the supporting slots. The final triumph for Maine West came in the mile relay, which sported its best time of the year with a 3:44.3 posting.

In the Taft meet, coach Edwin Smith's tracksters also pulled 11 of 12 possible firsts, with Steele taking three of them.
