The Maine West Warriors started out this year's football season with a 6‑0 win over the New Trier West Cowboys.
The first exciting play of the game was Jim Lamberty's brilliant punt return in the first quarter. Lamberty brought the ball deep into Cowboy territory: but after getting within the New Trier 10‑yard line, the Warrior offense stalled.
Even though the offense couldn't punch the ball over the goal line, the Warrior team stayed so psyched up that it was evident that they would soon score.
The only score of the game came in the second quarter when Warrior running back Dave Jackson took the ball in from the 3‑yard line. Maine West's attempt at a 2‑point conversion failed.

New Trier offense. The Cowboys had a few scoring opportunities in the second half, but the tough Warrior defense would not give in.
The sophomore team also won their game with the Cowboys by an overwhelming score of 37‑0. The Warriors came out strong and never let up on the bewildered New Trier team.
Their second game of the year proved to be a different story for the varsity team. The Warriors were shut out by Niles North, 15-0. The sophomore team, however, played another strong game this time demolishing their opponent by the score of 26-8.
