Varsity Golf Squad Shows
Consistency Early

The varsity golf team started their season winning two of their first three meets by close scores.

On Sept. 5 the Warriors lost to Conant by a score of 192‑173. The team wasn't ready with Steve Zilleo shooting a low of 46. In their next meet, West defeated New Trier West by a score of 159‑160. The close final score was capped by a low score of 38 by Mike Franklin. This meet was Maine West's first at home of the season. Home meets are played at Golden Acres Country Club.

West also won its second home game of the season by just getting past Prospect 158-159. Mike Franklin again had low score shooting a 37. This year's varsity squad, which has a 2 and 1 record. According to Coach Eugene Zuccarini. "We're going to be a comparable team to last year, if not better."

 

On the sophomore level, Maine West won their first game against Conant by a score of 197‑202. Jim Carroll shot a low score of 44. On Sept. 7 the sophomore kickers lost to New Trier West by a score of 183‑177. Although West shot 14 strokes better than last time, New Trier West was just too much for the Westmen.

The West golfers repeated their good performance scoring a 183 against Prospect but again the score was beaten by a low 179.

According to Coach Zuccarini, the varsity is going to be more balanced than last year. Consistency should help the Warrior golfers says Coach Zuccarini.
