The Maine West swimming team started a tough Prospect team (fifth in state last year) winning, 96‑76. The Warriors also were victorious over Maine South and Maine East to finish the season.
Against Prospect, West won first and second in three events including a first in diving by Tom Stanonis with Ian Dent placing second. Rob MacNab won the 200‑yard individual medley and in the process set a school record. Kurt Altergott took second in the same event.
Every Warrior swimmer turned in their fastest time of the season and were not outscored in any event. The JV sunk Prospect, 110‑39, with Bill Graham and Steve LaVoie leading the way.

The tankmen took on Maine East and beat the Demons, 130‑34. West placed first in every varsity event. Rob MacNab set pool and school records; and the 400‑meter free style relay team of MacNab, Steve Lambrechts Ken Lenhard and Altergott established a new school record. On the JV level West defeated East 91‑80.
The Maine West swim team ended the season with a 7‑5 dual meet conference record. They had eight all‑conference men who qualified by finishing first or second. Coach Scott Chovanec thinks each swimmer can produce his best times in post season play. Today starts the IHSA state swimming finals.
