Maine West Salutes Senior Boy Athletes

Cross Country

This year's outstanding senior boy cross country runner is Jukka Kallio. Kallio displayed tremendous courage throughout the entire season. An excellent example of his courage came during the state sectionals. Kallio was knocked down from behind after only 1/4 of the three‑mile race was completed. Although bleeding badly, he got up and finished the race. Had Kallio stayed down, West would not have qualified for state competition.

Mr. William Barringer, cross country coach, commented, "Every person out for cross country must have tremendous desire and drive. Jukka Kallio went above and beyond the usual level of work. He rightfully earned the title of the team's hardest worker."
