Homecoming To Arrive

Tomorrow preparations for Homecoming will begin with the annual window decorating in Maine West and downtown Des Plaines. Windows will be decorated by clubs whose work will be judged and prizes awarded. The window decorations will be judged on the appropriateness of the slogan, the ingenuity in carrying out the slogan, the originality of the decoration, and its general appearance.

Float building will be also begin tomorrow from 9‑12 p.m. Any club can build a float, as well each student class. These floats will be judged at the pep rally on the basis of their ingenuity, crowd appeal, durability, general appearance, and on how well the float relates to the Homecoming theme, "The Wondrous World of Disney." Float building will also take place on Monday from 10‑noon, and on Tuesday and Wednesday from 2:40‑7 p.m. The building will conclude on Thursday immediately prior to the parade lineup.

Next Thursday the annual Homecoming pep rally will be held at 7 p.m. in the football stadium. Activities there will include the tug of war, the VW push, and the spirit cheer. Also at the assembly, the Homecoming king and queen will be announced. Members of the court from which the king and queen will be chosen are Dawn Lorenzo '79, Kim Marquette '79, Donna Schultz '79, Jackie Sullivan '79, Ann Vaccarello '79, Dusty Carlson '79, Joe Glasgow '79, Mike Hanning '79, Tony Tovella '79, and Doug Zegler '79.

Thursday, Oct. 12, will be Mickey Mouse tee‑shirt day, when students and faculty will be encouraged to wear Mickey Mouse tee‑shirts. On Oct. 13 a Donald Duck sound alike contest will be held. The winner will be named "Quack of the Year." Any time students have period free, On Oct. 11, 12, or 13, they can come to L‑101 and watch Walt Disney films.

At the football game on Friday night, several different attractions will be presented. Thousands of balloons will be on sale to be released at the opening kickoff. The Homecoming court will be presented between the sophomore and the varsity football games. Also between the games the Maine West Marching Band will perform a show which will be student written, as will the half time show.

On Oct. 14 the Homecoming dance, "When You Wish Upon a Star," will be held. At the dance which will be held in the auditorium from 8‑11 p.m., the Homecoming queen will be crowned. From 8:30 to 9p.m. a tea will be held for the Homecoming court and their parents. Tickets for the dance will go on sale for $4 in the bookstore on Oct. 10.

The Homecoming coordinator for this year is Sulo Wainio. Brian Blondell will coordinate the pep rally with Lea Carlson '79, the Pep Club president. According to Student Council president, Dave Jackson '79, "This year's Homecoming will be the greatest ever, if it gets the full support of the student body."
