Foreign Students Attend MW

Maine West has two foreign exchange students attending here this year, Gabriela Oesch from Switzerland, who transferred here under the Youth for Understanding program, and Maritta Kuula, an American Field Service student.

Gabriela Oesch is a ski instructor in Switzerland, where nearly everyone skis, and is taking French IV this year. Maritta Kuula is a member of the archery team. Both will graduate in June.

Jill Peckenpaugh '78 left Maine West last year to represent our school in Italy as an AFS student. She is staying in Bergamo, an Alpine city in the northern part of the country.

Both foreign exchange students are members of the International Club, an organization which assists the adult chapter of AFS in their annual pizza drive which will be held on Nov. 11. The club also attends the International Folk Festival, which is to be held on Nov. 4 at Navy Pier. This event will also be attended by most of the language oriented clubs. The other activity planned by the International Club for Oct. is an ethnic excursion on Oct. 20.

According to Mr. Don Smith, International Club membership is open throughout the entire year, so students who have an interest in the International Club should come to their meetings or see the faculty sponsor, Mr. Smith.
