Preparing for the Big Weekend

BY KIM KLECKNER

In high schools all across the nation the biggest of all fall events is Homecoming. Homecoming is awaited by the fighting football team, by all the rowdies waiting to show their school spirit, and by all the girls for the big night‑the Homecoming dance.

About two to three weeks before the big date girls start getting nervous, hoping their dream guy is looking in their direction for the dance. Guys start wondering which girl they want to go with most and if they think the girl will say yes.

Once dates have been made, school social life buzzes. As soon as another girl is asked gossip takes it around the school in two periods or less. Girls start wondering what to wear and what to buy and how to get ready and a million other questions.

Then the day the girls are asked they rush out to the store that very night to find the perfect dress for the perfect evening. After completing their attire for the dance, the girls suddenly go frantic realizing that they have to pick out outfits for the pep assembly and the football game. After all it is a big deal in a girl's life deciding what pair of levis to wear on each night.

Most girls grab the phone after school and ask to borrow one of her shirts, sweaters, or a pair of shoes, whatever the case may be. And maybe if the girls are lucky, within three months all their clothes will be returned.

After the big weekend, however, everything returns to normal, at least until Christmas Formal comes along!
