Girls' Tennis Off To Bad Start

The Maine West girls' tennis team continued to fall short of victory dropping meets to Waukegan East, Niles West, and Prospect. The team is young, though, and should improve with experience.

The Warriors lost to Waukegan by a score of 5‑5. In first singles Denise Jenderzak won 6‑1, 6‑3. In fourth singles Cathy Cooper won by a score of 4‑6, 6‑4, 6‑3. Mary Sullivan lost in a close match in third singles. The score in sets was 6‑4, 4‑6,0‑6.

The girls lost to Niles West in a lopsided meet by a score of 7‑0. Against Glenbrook South the Warrior tennis players lost 7‑0. Denise Jenderzak lost in three sets 7‑6, 3‑6, 6‑2. Mary Sullivan was also defeated in three sets by scores of 2‑6, 7‑5, 2‑6.

Prospect proved to be a tough opponent beating the Warriors, 5‑2. In first singles Denise Jenderzak won by scores of 7‑5 3‑6, 6‑2. Debbie Lindeman was also victorious in a close match winning 3‑6, 7‑5, 7‑5 in third singles. The doubles team of Hoch and freshman Donna Logisz lost in a close match, 3‑6, 6‑4, 5‑7.

The girls' tennis team has upcoming meets against Conant on Oct. 10 and Waukegan West on Oct. 11, both meets on Maine West's tennis courts. The Central Suburban League finals will be played on Oct. 13 and 14 at Maine South.
