Seventeen Maine West students will be participating in the Illinois Music Education Association (IMEA) District Festival. Their performance will begin at 1:30 p.m. on Nov. 11 in the Maine West Rider Gym.
The tryouts for the IMEA were held on Oct. 4 and 5. Students in the band and orchestra tried out at Elk Grove High School. The choir students tried out in Elgin. Seven hundred fifty junior high and high school students from the northeastern part of Illinois will take part in the program.
The students from the Maine West band are trombonists Scot Bolman '79, Brad Briskey '79, and Steve Hines '80 on trumpet. From the choir are Steven Burek '79, Karl Dahlstrom '80, Kristin King '80, Eileen Kramer '79, Joyce Nitz

'80, Martin Pazdioch '80, Yvonne Pitlik '79, Janet Schuldt '79, Margaret Sjostrand '79, Fred Straub '80, and Michael Weber '79. From the orchestra are Rhonda Hotop '80, Meg Swensen '80, who qualified on viola, and Donna Vilkatis '79 on second violin.
The guest conductors for the junior high students are Mr. George Have, band, Mr. Bruce Fowler, orchestra; and Mr. Don Daebellin, choir. At the High School level are Mr. Sam Licocci, jazz band; Mr. Stanley DeRusha, band; Mr. Fred Okwell, orchestra; and Mr. Kurt Shalgren, choir.
Participation in the program is voluntary on the students' part. It is run by the Illinois State Music Organization and is sponsored by the state government.
