Maine West's V‑Show, "Family Reunion," has taken form and will be completely different from any V‑Show in previous years. This year the show has a central plot, a family reunion, and each act relates to the main theme.
The two act show, sponsored by Student Council, is composed of 33 separate acts. One of the main characters, Bernard, is played by Mark Halverson '80. Bernard is a son in the household whose birthday is on the same day as the family reunion. He is convinced that the reunion has been called for the sole purpose of celebrating his birthday.
The first act begins with an overture by the pit band under the direction of Steve Hines '80. Steve will be directing the musical act in Act. I. Highlights of the first act include the entire cast of the production singing "Love Will Keep Us Together." After "The Joker," an act which features Bernard, the pit chorus, and the dance chorus, the choraliers will sing "Home."
Other acts include "Junk Food Junkie" by the Kavanaughs and members of the varsity football squad doing a ballet to "Swan Lake." Camilla Mensinger '79 will perform a piano solo, and Anjula Lal '79 will perform an Indian dance.

Act II will consist primarily of a disco scene which is interrupted by individual acts, the first being a performance of the rock band "Beowulf." After another disco scene, the dance chorus will perform an act entitled, "Magic Cane." This will be followed by another dance, "Get Up and Boogie," also by the dance chorus.
The eighth scene of the second act comprises the end of Bernard's birthday dreams when he sings a sorrowful rendition of "Happy Birthday" to himself. Other acts include "Couple Hamburgers": the title cannot be explained any further. Other individual performers in the second act are Eva Seidler '79, who has a solo singing role, and Ellen Tolstad, who will perform a ballet.
The final scene includes the entire cast singing "Consider Yourself," a theme song from the Walt Disney production Oliver. The second act director for all musical scenes is Andy McCarthy '81. Both he and Steve Hines are also arranging the music which they will direct.
Miss Michelle DiCarlo is the faculty member in charge of set design this year. Although the V‑Show is progressing very well, more students are needed for the different stage crews. The stage crew takes care of the curtain, the props, the lights, and the makeup. If you are interested in joining the stage crew see either Miss Sandra Bonde, Miss DiCarlo, or Ms. Susan Colliander.
