The Maine West Pep Rally, originally scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 12, was held on Friday, Oct. 13, during periods eight and nine. The theme of this year's Homecoming and Pep Rally was "The Wondrous World of Disney."
All four classes participated in the float competition, each class basing their float on a character of Disney. The Junior Class took first place. The theme for their float was Pete's Dragon.
In downtown Des Plaines a window painting contest was held between the different clubs. The Swim Club took first place for their ingenious design. Also there was a contest for the best decorated can. The winner of this contest was Artists Unlimited.
At the Pep Rally itself a variety of contests were held. There was a new contest this year called Quack Off.

Students who entered were asked to do voice imitations of Donald Duck. A tape of their voices was played over the P.A. during homeroom, and all the homerooms voted for the one they thought to be best. The winner was Senior Class president, Rich Bistany.
Another first this year was the slow bike riding contest. Unlike most normal style bike races, the winner of this race was the entrant who could ride the slowest. Each class participated and Rich Bistany was once again a winner.
The traditional pep contests took a surprising turn this year. The Senior Class took first place in the Volkswagon push with an amazingly fast time. The Freshman Class recorded a surprising victory by beating out the sophomores, seniors, and faculty in the tug‑of‑war. The spirit jug was won by the Sophomore Class who showed a fine demonstration of school spirit. Many thanks to the faculty and student body members who helped to make this year's Pep Rally a fine success.
