The Maine West varsity archery team competed in the state archery meet on Oct. 13 and 14. The meet was held at Eastern Illinois University.

The Warriors had six girls compete at Eastern: Maianne Gibson, Meg Gravesmill, Margie Hahn, Holly Hamilton, Jan Nelson, and Sharon Vaughn. Vaughn, who has shot well all season, placed fifth in individual competition with a score of 1,296. Other total scores for the West archers were Gibson1,213, Gravesmill‑1,101, Hahn‑l,1183, Hamilton‑1,194 and Nelson‑1,109. Meg Gravesmill and Donna Pluciennik both shot perfect ends this season for the archers.

The Warrior archers finished first this year in district competition. The team finished the season with a superb record of 10‑3. The team is coached by Mr. Harold Connell.

The team, as a whole, placed ninth at the state meet. Teams finishing ahead of the Warriors were first‑Hersey, second-Prospect, third‑Rolling Meadows, fourth‑Glenbrook North, fifth‑Arlington Heights, sixth‑Kaneland, and seventh-Freeburg.
