Warrior Football Team Wins 27-0
in Homecoming

The Maine West varsity football team took the Homecoming game from Niles West on Friday, Oct. 13, by an overwhelming score of 27‑0. Key players in Friday's action were Gary Crossland, Dave Jackson, Perry Carlini, and Mark Voss.

In the first quarter Gary Crossland scored on a 27‑yard touchdown run. Tim Clifford kicked the extra point. The second Maine West touchdown was run in by Dave Jackson when he dived one yard over the goal line. This ended the half with a score of 15‑0.

The third quarter scorer was Mark Voss who ran the ball for a touchdown with the conversion failing. Dave Jackson plunged two yards for his second touchdown making the final score 27‑0.

Maine West's sophomore team also defeated the Indians by a score of 22‑14. Kevin Clifford scored two touchdowns, and both 2‑point conversions were barreled in by Tim Rapinchuck. The third touchdown was run in by George Arvanitis late in the fourth quarter. On Saturday, Oct. 14, the junior varsity lost to the Indians at Niles West by a score of 28‑7.

The freshman A team won by a score of 20‑0 but the B team lost, 20‑14.

At Glenbrook South on Oct. 21, the varsity Warriors were beaten by a score of 41‑20. Glenbrook South, who is ranked third in state took control of the game early and never let up.

The sophomores lost their second game of the season by a score of 8‑6. Starting quarterback George Arvanitis was injured in the second quarter when he was knocked out of bounds.

Oct. 6 and 7 turned out to be a disappointment for the Warriors as the Glenbrook North Spartans won on all levels. The varsity lost a heartbreaker by a score of 13‑12 in overtime. On the sophomore level the score was 28‑8. This defeat for West ended a 12‑game winning streak, the longest in Maine West history.
