Maine West's Winter Play will be "David and Lisa." The play is an adaptation for the stage from the novel by Theodore Isaac Rubin, an eminent psychiatrist. The play was also an award winning movie.
This adaptation by James Reach is a touching story about two mentally disturbed teenagers and their individual relationships between them and their family and friends. The main characters are David and Lisa. David is played by Mark Halverson '80, and Lisa is portrayed by Lisa Marquette '81. These two characters attend school at Berkley School, a school for the mentally handicapped. At Berkley they are taken under the sympathetic and understanding guidance of psychiatrist, Ellin Swinford, played by Janice Johnson '80.
David is the only son of wealthy parents and is overprotected by a dominating mother. David is constantly tortured by his fear that other people will touch him. Lisa is a lonely child who has never known parental love and has developed a split personality. Lisa will only talk in childish rhymes and insists that others speak to her in the same manner.

"The cast of David and Lisa is large with a very good mixture of both experienced and inexperienced actors," said Mr. Daryl Schultz, director of the play. Mr. Robert Norris is the technical director and is also in charge of set design. Mr. Ronald Mills is the producer and will also act as the business manager. Assisting Mr. Schultz is Jeanine Sansone '79. The Thespian Society will sponsor the play.
Other performers include Sheila Nelson '79, as David's mother. Mr. Clemens has not been cast as yet. Eileen Terry '80 will play Mrs. Ferris. Kathy Bashem '79 will portray Maureen Hart.
