Well, it is here again, that time of year known as "the holidays." For all it is a busy and hectic time of year. Halloween has come and gone, and immediately sights are set on Christmas. But what about that holiday in between; we know the one, where all our relatives come over and sit around and eat turkey. That's it, Thanksgiving!
Thanksgiving is more than turkey and all its trimmings. As the work implies, it is a time to give thanks. Thanks can be given in many ways; it does not only have to be in the form of a church service. Actions can show our thankfulness. Truly we have much to be thankful for‑a fine school, friends, families, and our health and youth.
Maine West Girls' Junior and Senior Leaders Club are helping two families to celebrate Thanksgiving this year. Through contact with the Des Plaines Welfare Agency, they learned of these families in the Des Plaines area that, due to financial troubles, would not be able to have the traditional Thanksgiving dinner. The girls have decided to help these families so that their Thanksgiving may be a pleasant one. Presently, they are collecting canned goods from all the members and later will purchase a turkey and all the other items for the

families the day before Thanksgiving. Their action will help to make two groups of persons very happy this Thanksgiving. The Student Council of Maine West is also providing a Thanksgiving food basket for a needy family in our area.
We should all try to follow the example set by Leader's Club, Student Council, and all the other groups that do something to help others during this holiday season. Let's all of us, right now, challenge ourselves to do something for someone else during this time of Thanksgiving, without expecting anything in return. We should try to do something by which we can show how grateful we are for our youth and our good health. Let us try to help someone who is less fortunate than ourselves; rake leaves for a neighbor who is unable, spend some time with a person who is lonely, or go to the store for a shut‑in. Any of these things will truly brighten their spirits.
The spirit of Thanksgiving is one that is often overlooked. This year, if all of us accept the challenge to help someone else, many people will know that the true spirit of Thanksgiving is felt by today's youth.
