Winter Play, 'David and Lisa,' Holds
Performances Dec. 15, 16

Maine West's winter play, David and Lisa, was performed Dec. 15 and 16 in the auditorium. The two‑act play was about two mentally disturbed teenagers and the relationships between themselves and their families and friends.

The play, sponsored by the Thespian Society, featured a large cast. The main roles of David and Lisa were played by Mark Halverson '80 and Lisa Marquette '81. Mark's previous appearances on the Maine West stage include a part in the "Protest" segment of last year's winter production of "Other Places, Other Times"; and the part of Bernard in this year's "A Family Reunion" V‑Show. Lisa has appeared in both the 1977 and 1978 V‑Show and has acted in many out-of‑school productions.

Janice Johnson '80 also had a lead part, that of Elm Swinford. Janice has appeared in many productions during the past two years, including the "Murder of Lidice" segment of 1976‑77's "Theatre West," the 1977 "Visions" V‑ Show, and a part in the "To Burn a Witch" segment of "Other Places, Other Times," and The Curious Savage.

Other cast members included seniors Kathy Bashem as Maureen Hart, Jim Mix as John, Sheila Nelson as David's

mother, Linda Olson as Barbara, and Judy Rompf as Sandra. Juniors who performed were Ron Bertram as Robert, Fred Klee as Simon, Bob Schumm as Ben, and Eileen Terry as Mrs. Ferris.

Performing sophomores included Mike Adams as Mr. Clemens, Kathy Brand as Kate, Pam Peca as a secretary, and Joanne Stine as Josette. Freshman cast members included Ed Johnson as Carlos, Steve Kaminsky as Porter, Debbie Breit as a woman, and Alan Kass as a boy.

David and Lisa was staged with a minimum of props and no flats. This required the actors to pantomime many things, such as opening a door, going through it, and then closing it. The play was performed on a series of platforms.

The play itself is constructed into a series of short scenes. Therefore, according to Mr. Daryl Schultz, director of the play, a problem of maintaining continuity presented a major problem.

Members of the production staff for the play included Mr. Schlutz; Mr. Ronald Mills, producer and business manager; Mr. Robert Norris, technical director and set design; and Jeanine Sansone '79, assistant to the director.
