Student Board Represents Ill. Teenagers

The Student Advisory Committee represents high school students for the State Board of Education. It is composed of 13 members who represent students of various races, backgrounds, and geographic areas within Illinois.

The committee advises and gives information to the State Board of Education, expresses student views and concerns to the Board, and informs students of policies and programs of the Board and the Illinois Office of Education. It also serves as a link between students and teachers, administrators, school boards, and others involved in Illinois education.

At its first meeting the Student Advisory Committee set its first and foremost goal: to make members of the educational community aware of their purpose, goals, and accomplishments. They also plan to sponsor a state conference for students and distribute a newsletter.
