The Maine West gymnastics team opened their season with victories on all three levels. On Friday, Dec. 8, Maine West battled Waukegan East; and on Dec. 9 victories over Maine East and Mundelein were the rule.
The outstanding all around senior gymnasts were Greg Bosco, Ed Williams and Jeff Cieszkowski on the high bar. Kurt Nelson on the side horse proved to be a winner. Besides the senior gymnasts, Greg Coburn and Tim Harris "proved to be the all around men," according to Coach Steve Holmbeck.
"The freshmen should do well in conference; and if the sophomores continue to work hard, they could place high in the conference down state. All

levels are working well," Coach Holmbeck also said. He has confidence that the sophomores will go down state to the IHSA State Finals.
The season started late this year. The opening meet was to be held on Dec. 1 against Evanston and on Dec. 2 against Niles East at home. These meets were cancelled because of the severe weather conditions that weekend.
On Wednesday, Dec. 13, Maine West will travel to Glenbard East to meet with Conant/Glenbard East, with all three levels competing.
Tuesday, Dec. 19, will be the date of the next meet against Maine North. Only the varsity and the sophomores will be competing.
