Spikers Lose Title To South Hawks

The girls' volleyball season officially ended last month with an exceptionally good record of 19‑8. The junior varsity finished with an excellent record of 14‑1.

In the CSL division the varsity and junior varsity placed second, and the freshmen team placed third in the division and had a record of 3‑2. Although Maine South won districts and conference on all levels, Coach Royleen Tipton said, "We have had a very successful season having had more victories than ever before." Ms. Judy Beck is her assistant coach.

Seniors who made all‑conference are Karen Habetler, Natalie Homer, Heide Jung, Debbie Meinke, Maureen Moeller, and Wendy Winkleman. Although Maine West took first place in districts and second in the conference last year, Ms. Tipton said, "All of the girls did a truly outstanding job, and their performances were very competitive." The West spikers were originally tied for first place with two other schools, Maine South and Glenbrook North.

After hashing it out, the West spikers finally lost to the Maine South team but not before putting up a hard fight. Considering the fact that the spikers were off to a slow start in the beginning of the school year, they have come a long way.
