Ann Vaccarello has won the Daughters of the American Revolution Good Citizens award this year at Maine West. This is awarded to the student who excels in these qualities: dependability, service, leadership and patriotism.

Ann is a senior and was a member of both the Homecoming Court and a queen of the Christmas Court. She also competed on the Archery Team this year. On winning the award, Ann commented, "I was really shocked and kind of excited."

The next step for Ann is the state competition where a questionnaire will be filled out so that the Illinois Good Citizen will be chosen on the basis of. merit. The questionnaire is judged on merit alone, regardless of race, creed, or color. The winning student in each state will receive a $100 government bond from the Illinois organizaton. The winner of the state competition will then advance to the national contest. The national society gives a $1,000 scholarship to the National Good Citizen Winner.
