'Fiddler on the Roof' Begins Rehearsals

This years' annual musical, to be presented by the Maine West Music Department is Fiddler on the Roof. It will be performed on March 15, 16, and 17 at 8 p.m. in the auditorium. A matinee performance will be given at 4 p.m. on the fourteenth.

The story of Fiddler on the Roof takes place in a small peasant town in Tsarist, Russia. The main character in the play is Tevye. He is a dairy man who lives as his forefathers did, observing the ways handed down to him.

Tevye, his wife, and five daughters are one of the hard‑working families of the community. Their lives are filled with the joys of living, and they take adversity with gentle humor. However, as Tevye tries to raise his five daughters, he realizes that things have changed. He knows that he and his friends will have to become part of the changing world. At the close of the play, they all recognize the fact that the old ways no longer work. Then they all set out to start new lives in new lands.

In charge of the drama for this year's musical is Ms. Carla Oleck Skiba. Miss Sue Colliander and Mr. Robert Pelikan are in charge of the sets.

Marty Pazdioch '80 will be playing Tevye. His wife Golde will be played by Janice Johnson '79. Playing Tevye's daughters will be Kathy Bashem '79, Kristin King '80, and Yvonne Pytlik '79.

Other members of the cast include Karl Dahlstrom, '80, Paul Dombrowski '80, Mark Halverson '80, Eddie Johnson '82, Jeannette King '81, Eileen Kramer '79, Andy McCarthy '81, Maureen O'Malley '80, Donna Pluciennik '79, Mike Stein '81, and Mike Weber '79.

Senior chorus members for the musical include Dave Ahiman, Anita Jensen, Sheila Nelson, Laura Paulin, Merilyn Sauer and Janet Schuldt.

Junior chorus members are Archana Lal, Robert Morava, Joyce Nitz, and Eileen Terry. Sophomores include Marcie Bakker, Steve Lipar, and Rob Pascolini. Freshmen are Jerome Fitzgerald and Amy Stoneburner, and Kerm Towler.

Michele Hendrickson '80, Debbie Preiss '80, Carol Schneider '80, Ellen Tolstad '79, and Mary Tomaselli were the dancers selected to perform in the musical.
