Semester Adds New Staff

Several changes have been made in the teaching staff at the beginning of the second semester. Miss Karen Aperin is replacing Mrs. Lynn Katilius in the learning disability resource program. Mr. Paul Healy who has served in the Maine Township District before is replacing Mrs. Linda Sullivan who taught English and humanities. Mrs. Inez Marks is replacing the current social worker, Mrs. Jan McClennan. Mrs. Sandra Bonde is being replaced by Miss Denise Novak, who also teaches English. Mr. David Dorn is returning to Maine West to resume his former position as a teacher aide in learning disabilties.

Mary Kay Gerhardt Named AllAmerican

Mary Kay Gerhardt has been recognized as one of the top 20 divers in America. The All‑American rating was bestowed by a panel of top high school and college diving coaches. Mary Kay is presently rated in the top diver in Illinois and is expected to take first in the state swim meet.

Pvt. Michael McCann has returned from army basic training and advanced individual training at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, to serve as a recruiting aide at the U. S. Army Recruiting Station in Des Plaines with Sgt. Zavadin who had enlisted him into the All Volunteer Army in August of '78.

Michael is a 1978 graduate of Maine West and when his recruiter aide assignment is completed, he is scheduled to report to Europe in his specialty as a military policeman. Michael is one of the 200,000 high school seniors who enlist every year and report for active duty after graduation through the Army's Delayed Entry Program.
