Orchesis Show Held

"A Spectrum of Movement" was the theme for this year's annual Orchesis Show. The show was held Friday, January 12, Friday, January 26, and Saturday, January 27, after the January 13 show was canceled due to the weather.

The club presented a wide variety of dances. In past years Tahitian dances have usually been performed; but this year, in addition to the Tahitian dance, a Hawaiian dance was also performed. For the first time in recent years boys were included in the dances. They performed in a 50's dance and a waltz. Tap dancing as well as modern dance were also in the show.

This year there were more solos which the girls tried out for than in other shows of the past. Solos were performed by Ellen Tolstand, Jane Pabich, Jamie Minor, and Pam Thimios. Beth Kostick also performed a solo, which has become a tradition for all the Orchesis Club presidents.

This year's Orchesis Club tried to present a different kind of show than in the past. The use of props, for the first time, helped contribute to their goal. In a number, "Magic To Do," the dancers wore white gloves and shoes, while dancing under a black light to give the ffect of magic. In Ellen Tolstad's solo, "Welcome to the Machine," a strobe light was used. Also many different kinds of costumes were used to create the mood of the dance, such as the costumes used in "Dance into Oz."

The club's president, Beth Kostick, was commented as saying "The key to the success of the 1979 Orchesis Show was the enthusiasm and dedication of the girls involved in the show; they put their whole heart into the performance."
