Winter Dreams

BY JENNIFER ADAMS

On the inside, frost covers the window.
Outside, the wind chill is 15 below
Will the grassy earth ever again show?
You're thinking silent winter thoughts, you know.

Your friends are trying to get you to ski
Inside upsets them; outside they must flee.
You'd rather stay inside, warm, with some tea
You're thinking silent winter thoughts, you see.

Oh, the harsh north wind sets out to blind
The small, wrapped up specimens of mankind.
The cold is more than just a state of mind
You're thinking silent winter thoughts, you find.

Come March or April, the cold blast will end;
You'll miss the landscape's plain white blend.
What your May thought will be you can depend
You're thinking silent winter thoughts, my friend.
