The basketball team finally clinched their first victory of the season, defeating Niles West, 46‑45. The victory, however, came days after a slim 50‑47 loss to the Spartans of Glenbrook North.
The opening period of the Niles West contest saw neither team sparking much of an offense. After many misdirected shots, Maine did manage to attain a 9‑8 lead. This did not last long as Niles came alive to gain a four‑point lead by the half. In the second half, the cagers bore down on defense and were ale to regain and keep the lead to win, 44‑43. Jim Schultz led Warrior scorers with 15 points.
Maine did not fare as well against Glenbrook North and Arlington, falling to both. Immediately Glenbrook came out running and gunning and jumped to a 28-18 halftime lead. West was able to slow the pace considerably in the second half, but their efforts were in vain as they fell 50-47. Arlington dealt them a similar fate, beating West, 69-59. after some excellent ball playing by Arlington early on, the Warriors managed to slim an early 14-point lead to three points

with six minutes left. However, Arlington rattled off eight points to clinch the victory. Craig Gustafsson nailed 13 points and three steals in an impressive performance.
Glenbrook South was the next to down the Warriors before they entered the York Holiday Tournament. Maine was leading throughout the game, but last quarter mistakes and turnovers allowed Glenbrook to overtake them and win, 55‑49. Three players were in double figures. Schultz, Tim Richardson, and Chip Holler scored 14, 12, and 11 points respectively.
At the tournament the Warriors cashed in as they scored their second victory of the season over Immaculate Conception, winning, 58‑43. Gustafsson was again the key with an outstanding 20‑point effort. A tough Maine defense forced 19 turnovers in the triumph. Schultz once again had an outstanding game under the boards. West dominated this game as IC never got closer than nine points in the second half. York destroyed Maine West in the quarter final by a score of 75‑58.
