On Jan. 5 the varsity wrestled Waukegan West in a match that went down to the last wrestler. The final score was Maine West 23 and Waukegan West 28. Warrior pinners in this contest were Dave Detzner, 98; and Tony Cavasos, 185.

The varsity Warriors went to Forest View to wrestle in the Forest View tournament. Maine West won by an overwhelming score of 47‑9. Pinners for the Warriors were Rick Spencer, 105; Sulo Wainio, 112; Val Garza, 138; and Kevin Fang, 145. However, in the second meet against St. Viator,West lost, 28‑25.

On Jan. 6 the JV I team wrestled Waukegan West and lost by a score of 22‑36. That same day the sophomores wrestled at Maine East in the Maine East tournament and placed fourth of the six teams entered.

Maine West faced Niles West on Jan. 12 and dominated by scoring four pins and two forfeits. The final score was 45‑8. The four pinners were Rick Spencer, 105; Sulo Waino, 112; Jerry Chuatal, 138; and Vince Lombardo, 167.

JV I won by an unbelievable score of 50‑10. West scored four pins and five forfeits. JVII also won, this being another embarrassing score for Niles West of 12‑6. The freshmen won 46‑19 as Maine took all levels from Niles West.
