Speech Team Concludes Successful Season

The Maine West Speech Team concludes its season this weekend when all members who have taken first place in a tournament attend the S.C.O.T.I.E. speech tournament. Students participating include Kathy Bashem '79, Tim Dadabo '79, Karen Eschenback '79, Julie Farrell '79, Mark Halverson '80, Janice Johnson '79, Sheila Nelson '79, Maureen O'Malley '80, Yvonne Pytlik '79, Sue Ragusen '79, Rudy Rompf '79, and Sheila Wall '80. These students comprise the nucleus of a speech team which won all but one of their tournaments and took second in the other. The showing of the Speech Team this year is one of the best ever, and matching it next year is the goal of every speech team member.


ACT TEST DEADLINE

Deadline for the Apr. 7 American College Test is next Friday, Mar. 9. The ACT test is a prerequisite for consideration as an Illinois State Scholar and is the most frequently used by colleges across the country. The other college entrance examination is the Scholastic Aptitude Test. The next SAT test offered at Maine West is on May 5. Deadline for registration without a penalty is on Mar. 30. The SAT is required for some college applications and must be taken by all National Merit Semifinalists.

WINTER JAM RESCHEDULED

DECA Blue has rescheduled the Winter Jam and will hold it on Friday, Mar. 9. The Winter Jam will be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Rider Gym. Tickets for the Jam are $1 and can be purchased from any DECA member.


GIRL'S CHOICE APPROACHING

The Girl's Choice Dance, "We Have Tonight," will be held on Saturday, Mar. 17, from 8 to 11 p.m. Tickets can be purchased in the bookstore for $5 a couple.


READERS THEATRE COMPETITION

Maine West's Readers Theatre "Chevrolet Garden" by Winston Withers will enter district competition on Mar. 10 at Fenton High School. Participating students include Marcie Bakker '81, Mark Halverson '80, Andy MCune'82, Kendel Okon '81, and Eileen Terry '80.
