West Skaters Begin State Tournament

BY DENNIS MURRAY

The Maine West High School Hockey Club varsity team defeated Maine East, 3‑1, and York, 3‑2, in their last two games. The varsity is currently in fourth place in the North Central Division of the Chicago Metro High School Hockey League. The varsity team plays at the Oakton Recreational Center in Park Ridge. The junior varsity, currently in third place of the Great Northern Division, plays at the Skatium in Skokie. Both teams will be in the state tournament with All‑Stars selections Pat Esposito, Steve Cardona, and Tony Cardona to lead the way.

Though this franchise is known as the "Maine West" Hockey Club, the Maine West institution gives the team absolutely no support in contributions of any kind. This being the case, individuals interested in an athletic activity have to make certain sacrifices. They receive no letters or numerals, of traditional nature; and the numerous trophies and flags are not allowed to be displayed in Maine West. The Hockey Club is allowed to use the bulletin boards and the P.A. system.
