Girls' Gymnastics Underway

The girls' gymnastics team, coached by Mrs. Judy Beck and Mr. Steve Holmbeck, started their season last week with wins for both teams over Niles East.

There has been a new addition to the team this year; the junior varsity team is now split into two teams, junior varsity A and B. The varsity team uses all optional routines, while the JV. team uses all compulsory routines. According to Mrs. Beck, "Varsity A allows its members to compete in both optional and compulsory routines."

In their first meet against Niles East, the varsity team won 77.8 to 67.05. Kim Kratz took first place in the vaulting competition and second place in the floor exercise. Colleen Monahan placed first on the uneven parallel bars, and Barb Rieck placed second on the balance beam. The junior varsity team also won with a score of 41.35 as compared to a 32.1 for Niles East. The team's next meet is tomorrow against Glenbrook North at 10 a.m. in B‑wing gym.
