Office Occupations Places Three
Students In State Contests

BY CRAIG DONOHUE

Six students from the Maine West Office Occupation classes went to Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, on Feb. 3, to compete in the Office Education Association, Area 15 cornpetition. Seven other schools from this area were also represented at the competition. The eight schools that attended were Maine West, Maine North, Maine South, Maine East, Ridgewood, New Trier East, Niles East, and Niles West.

The six Maine West students who attended the contests were given two types of contests in which they could compete, depending upon their particular area of proficiency. The first competition is cluster and includes: accounting, data processing, general clerical, stenography, typing, receptionist, records management clerk, and information communications. The second category of competition was non‑cluster which includes: prepared verbal speaking, extemporaneous speaking, job interview, and individual student job manual.

The following four Maine West students placed very high in their respective contests. All four contestants competed in cluster competition. In Accounting II and Related; Chris Kuta '79 placed second while Dan Martin '79, finished third. In data processing computer, Don Paxson '79, took first. In general clerical II, Linda Wintz 79 placed first.

Mr. William Breitzke, the coordinator of Office Occupations, said, "I was very pleased with the students' performances at the Area 15 competition." As a result of their outstanding competitive effort, Chris Kuta, Don Paxson, and Linda Wintz will go on to the state competition on Mar. 29‑31 in Chicago.
