The Maine West Speech Team was represented by 10 entries at the Proviso East Speech Contest which was held on Saturday, Mar. 3. These 10 entries were the first place winners of the individual events contest.

The following Maine West students established themselves as finalists in the championship competition. Yvonne Pytlik '79 was rated as one of the five best extemporaneous speakers of the '79 season. Maureen O'Malley '80 along with Tim Dadabo '79 were rated as one of the best duet acting teams of the '79 season.

Still more Maine West students qualified for the final tournament by winning one or more contests throughout the season. These students were as follows: Kathey Bashem '79 for prose reading, Sheila Wall '80 along with Julie Farrell '79 in humorous duet acting, and Sheila Nelson in humorous interpretation. Others included: Maureen O'Malley in dramatic interpretation, Mark Halverson '80 for original comedy, Karen Eschenbach '79 in extemporaneous speaking, and Sue Ragusin '79 in original oration.
