Rob Piest's Funeral Held

Funeral services for Robert Piest '80 were held on Wednesday, Apr. 18, at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. Father Buck performed the ceremony. Rob was then taken to All Saints Mausoleum where he was buried.

The funeral was attended by approximately 300 students and members of the Maine West faculty, including Mr. James Coburn, Mr Eldon Burk, Mr. Fred Bencriscutto, Mr. John Carle, and Mr. Bruce Erickson.

While attending Maine West, Rob participated in gymnastics, was a classroom representative in Student Council, and was on the honor roll. He was popular both among other students and with the faculty.

A "Robert Piest Memorial Foundation" has been established by Mr. Coburn. Many contributions have already been received and more are expected. While Mr. and Mrs. Piest are not yet certain, they now are planning to use the money to send a boy and girl to gymnastics camp during each summer. They feel that this would be appropriate because of Rob's participation in the sport.

Said Mr. Coburn of the funeral service held this Wenesday, "The number of students who attended the funeral service was a real tribute to Rob. The service was very comforting to me, and I hope it was to his family and friends. Rob's death was a real loss to us all."
