BY JENNIFER ADAMS
I wish I were an artist
Instead of embarrassing
Both myself
And my friends
With rotten, horrible, weird drawings.
I wish I were a dancer
Instead of tripping
Over my feet
Into other people
With a clumsy way of moving.
I wish I were a musician
Instead of fumbling
Simple chords
Simpler melodies
With my out‑of‑tune performing.
I wish I were an actor
Instead of rasping
Stuttered words,
Garbled words
With sounds bringing others' laughter.
I wish I were a studio engineer
Instead of not knowing
What to do
And how to do it
With recording shows for airplay.
I wish I were an athlete
Instead of making
A fool of myself
Every time
With trying to do the required gym tasks.
I wish I were a writer
Instead of putting down
Illogical things
Strange tales
With no‑one, not even me, liking what's written.
I wish I were a poet
Instead of bumbling around
Cluttering up paper
Wasting useable space
With this poor excuse for poetry.
