The Maine West girls' badminton team's season is drawing to a close. The team has three more meets. So far the varsity record has been 3‑11, and the junior varsity 2‑9.
The team's last meet was a home meet against Glenbrook North on Apr. 18. An invitational meet will be held at Maine East on Apr. 21, followed by the conference meet, which will be held at Waukegan East on Apr. 27 and 28.
Even though the varsity team is a young team this year, with only two varsity players returning from last year, they hope to take second place in conference. Last year's returning varsity players are Denise Jenderzak and Meg Gravesmill. Denise and Meg both play singles.
On Mar. 7 the varsity team beat Glenbrook South, 4‑3, in an away meet, while the junior varsity lost 7‑0. Evanston was Maine West's next opponent; this meet took place on Apr. 5. On the varsity level the Maine West team lost, 4‑3. The junior varsity also lost, 4‑3.

This year's Maine West varsity badminton team is made up of Liz Bock, Jean Hoch, Meg Gravesmill, and Denise Jenderzak playing singles. Varsity doubles players are Maryval Kleisner & Georgean Weisgerber, Karen Peterson & Kathy Cooper, and Debbie Wilhelm & Ruth Dalsky.
Singles players for the junior varsity are Becky Johnson, Jo Manisclcao, Terry Sheetz and Sandy Spicer. Sharon Studtman & Ardis Rhines, Kris Kuchel & Sue Gregory, and Donna Barnes & Carolyn Ritz play doubles.
Ms. Royleen Tipton, the Maine West girls' badminton coach, felt, "The girls did a great job this season, for being a young team. The girls improved every week, and surprised a lot of the teams we had played early in the season." When asked how she feels the varsity team will do next year, Ms. Tipton replied, "Watch out!''
