The girls' gymnastics team is looking forward to the league meet tonight at 7 at Niles West. The coach, Mrs. Judy Beck, feels that the team will perform well.
The JV team closed its season with a fifth place finish in the division. Six gymnasts have been selected to represent Maine West at the JV League Meet. The team consists of Sue Kastner, all around; Carrie Reda, vaulting; Molly Sherky, vaulting and bars; Suzanne Rossi, bars; and Anabella Garrido and Fran Montarano will perform on both beam and floor. In addition to the league meet this tournament team will compete at the 15 Team Invitational at Downers Grove South tomorrow at 1 p.m.
The varsity team with a record of 10 and 8 will also be competing at the League meet. Their team consists of Diana Dalenberg, all around; Kim Kratz, vaulting and floor; Debbie Lowman, vaulting; Barb Rieck, vaulting, beam, and floor; Colleen Monahan, bars; and Pam Thompson, also on bars. Other team members are Martha Schillmoeller, bars and beam; Heidi Schlatter, beam, and Nancy Howard, floor.

The team is also looking forward to the district meet a week from Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lake Park High School. The district meet serves as a springboard to the state meet. When asked about the district meet, Mrs. Beck replied, "We have an excellent draw, and with good performances we should do well in districts."
On Apr. 6 at the Glenbrook South Invitational, Maine West finished third out of six teams. Outstanding scores were turned in by Dalenberg in the all' around, beam, and bars competition, while Kratz and Rieck finished well in the vaulting competition. Colleen Monahan also performed well on the bars.
Later on Apr. 10 Maine West took first at a tri-meet against Maine North and Buffalo Grove. Many of our gymasts finished first in their individual events. They include Dalenberg, all around; Kratz, vaulting; Schillmoeller, bars; and Rieck, vaulting and beam. Monahan also turned in a first place performance on the bars. When asked to comment on the past season, Mrs. Beck replied, "The team has progressed well throughout the season; tonight we will try to improve our standings in the league."
